I am a stay-at-home mom to two wonderful children who keep me very busy. I love technology, gardening, cooking, and personal finance.

Wine Tasting Tour: Were I Discovered The Wine Aerator

I recently went on my first wine tasting tour in Virginia with a bunch of friends.

We went to several vineyards near our homes.

Wine tasting was anywhere from $5-10 and we got to try 4-12 different wines at each vineyard.

By the end of the day, we were feeling pretty good and I learned a lot about wine.

One of the guys in the group had a wine aerator and he wanted us to try the wine before and after it was aerated.

He had us try a glass and then he twisted his aerator onto the wine bottle and poured it into our wine glasses.

It was very simple and quick. I did not think it would make much of a difference.

There was a huge difference! I could not believe it.

The flavor of the wines came out. It made the cheapest bottle of wine at the vineyard taste ten times better!

Where To Find Wine Aerators

When I got home, I told my husband about it.

On that trip I had discovered that I love Moscato and I needed to get a wine aerator.

I did not know where to buy one. I looked in my grocery store's wine section, but could not find it.

A few days ago, we were walking past a store called Cork & Fork.

We found it there for $26 and since it was my birthday, my husband bought it for me (It looks like it is selling for $19 online, I put the ad below).

How Do Wine Aerators Work?

I tried it out as soon as we got home. It even made my Moscato taste better. I did not think that was possible!

It is very easy to use. It is glass, so you do need to be careful with it.

You can clean it with soap and warm water, but I would not recommend putting it in the dishwasher since they are made of very thin glass.

You use it differently when you are using it with white wine and red wine.

With all wines, you twist it onto the top of the wine bottle, but not too tight.

If you are using it with white wine, you hold it at less of an incline.

White wines will have increased aromatics when aerated.

With red wines, you need to prime the bottle for extra aeration by covering the aerator with your hand and flipping the bottle and aerator upside down.

Invert the bottle to fill the aerator with wine. Turn the bottle upright again to let the wine fall back into the aerator.

Then you pour the wine through the aerator into your wine glass as you would with a white wine.

I mostly use my Soiree wine aerator on wines without bubbles since I think it would just flatten the wine.

It is very easy to use and makes a huge difference!

Wine aerators will enhance the aromatics, structure, balance and flavor of the wines you use it with.

I bought the "Wine Soiree" wine aerator and love it! I can't believe the difference it makes in the flavor of wines.
